Son of John and Helen Marnock, of Oak Cottage, Forbes, Alford, Aberdeenshire (Source : C.W.G.C.).

Died of wounds on the 18th August 1916. The Bailey's Sharpshooters was attached to the 2nd Brigade (1st Division) which was in action in High Wood sector. James Marnock was the third volunteer of this small unit (a total of 24 men served in it).
